A Challenge for Camera Shy Moms – Mommy and Me Monday

I love Krystyn over at Really, Are You Serious for starting this meme. I truly make a more conscious effort to get out from behind the camera when we are out and about as a family. The kids may not always be looking at the camera and the pictures are far from perfect, but they are capturing memories. I want to be able to share these pictures with my children when they are older and my own memory may not be as sharp.

I recently read a post by a fellow blogger asking for opinions on a dress she was planning to wear to a red carpet event. She posted a picture of herself in the dress for everyone to see. She looked amazing and the dress was gorgeous, save for one flaw. She wore a mask in the photo. The mask wasn’t the flaw. The flaw is with society and how it makes us feel about our self image. No one is perfect. That is why Photoshop was invented.

I left the blogger a comment saying she was beautiful, to lose the mask and to check out this meme. Every mother should be comfortable to capture themselves in the occasional picture with their children. It will hold memories for both the mother and the children. Memories are what is important. That you were there with your children enjoying life, no matter your size, or any other imperfection you may see in yourself. Our children don’t see the imperfections in us, so why should we focus on them.

I challenge all of you other mom’s who never get out from behind the camera! Put aside what ever reason makes you uncomfortable being photographed and live in the moment. When you look at that picture afterwards, don’t focus on your flaws. Focus on the faces of your children, your family, or whomever is in that picture with you.

Enjoy it for what it is…a beautiful memory that will not fade away.

Have you succeeded and gotten yourself out from behind the camera lately?
