Summer is officially here! Of course, living in Atlanta, I a mpretty sure you could consider our weather summer-like since mid-Spring. I know people grill all year long. We occassionally use the grill in the off-season, but as cold as DH keeps our house in the winter months, I like to use the oven as much as possible for extra heat! No joke. Sometime I will post a pic of my dad and his layers of clothes to sit in our living room, and yes the layers include a wool cap. 🙂
Anyway, back to the task at hand…summer grilling! The last few food posts I did were centered around the grill, and now it’s time to pay homage to the classic hot dog. Our whole family loves hot dogs. We enjoy them not only when we are checking out our local Gwinnett Braves, but also fresh off our own grill. Check out my latest spicy dish!
The buffalo slaw was so simple. Throw together a little rainbow pre-shredded slaw mix with some creamy blue cheese dressing, and then add your favorite hot wing sauce to your heat preference. Holy yum, Batman! What perfect combo of the cool creamy slaw with the juicy grilled hot dog. Next time I will grill the potato roll too. Then it will be the total texture package. There is nothing like a steamy hot dog right off the grill, but I will confess, I sometimes get a little concerned with my family eating hot dogs though. It’s not like we eat them all the time, but still, you hear stuff. Moms talk. Who wants to give food to their children made from meat and by-products containing antibiotics and hormones, or eat the food themselves for that matter? That’s why I was so excited to find a company like Applegate.
Applegate’s mission is to change the way America eats meat. We are a bunch of carnivores so my ears definitely perked up when I heard that. They also embrace three very important principals.
- Taste. Strive to make the best tasting products with no shortcuts and only natural ingredients.
- Truth. Conduct our farming practices with integrity and treat our animals and land with respect.
- Trust. Tell all of our story. Provide transparency into our industry and to our consumers.
I apprecaite a company that proudly states its principals and is available in the social community for people to reach out to them. I try and be mindful and instill healthy eating habits unto my children, and with Applegate’s line of products, I feel I don’t have to compromise. I can feel confident in the quality and taste, and still feel like the family is indulging in a food that seems as american as apple pie. I told you we were a baseball family. I not only made the sassy buffalo wing cole slaw to top our Applegate hot dogs, I also broke out the good old classic combo of Bavarian sauerkraut and mustard! Can you say YUM!
There is no reason to limit your grilling repetoire to only hot dogs. The Applegate brand features a wide variety of products. Try out the organic beef or turkey burgers or their organic or natural bacon. We all know everything is better with bacon, and now you can feel good about that Sunday morning splurge alongside of your pancakes. And great news people! Applegate products are now available in the Atlanta area. You can easily find a store that carries Applegate products by visiting the Applegate Farms Facebook Page and click on the Product Locator icon. I’ve made it easy for you by sharing a like button for you below.
I was happy to discover the Kroger right down the street from me carries both the Super Natural Beef and Super Natural Turkey (both uncured) version of the hot dogs. There are so many ways to create unique flavors with a perfectly grilled, juicy hot dog. So many in fact, I have startes a Summer Grilling board on Pinterest loaded wth not only hot dogs, but amazing looking burgers, portobella mushrooms, and anything else that tastes better with those lovely charred grill marks.
Now don’t take my word alone on Applegate. Feel free to check out ApplegateFarms.com for yourself to learn more about their entire product offerings, to help you find a store near you, or even for some super tasty recipes to make for yourself or family.
Now I am dying to know! What is your favorite way to top a grilled hot dog?

It’s good that you pointed out the quality difference between Applegate & lesser hotdog brands. I have discovered that there are vast ethical differences between hotdog companies as well, and I have written about some.
