Dirty Dancing In The Kitchen, AKA Doing The Dishes
Thanksgiving is just days away, and probably like every other working mom out there, I am behind schedule for the big dinner. Let’s face it, we all want to make the Thanksgiving meal as special as possible so we end up preparing everyone’s favorite dishes. I know for our simple family of four we will have no less than 5 side dishes. I’m not joking. They sure add up when you think about it…mashed potatoes, pineapple stuffing, glazed carrots, steamed parmesan & garlic green beans, and then whatever else I think we can’t live without.
All those side dishes mean one thing. Dishes. A ton of them. Ew.

I know better than to let a simple thing like dishes get me down on a holiday. So I don’t. I use fun to get the job done. We spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and we love to play music for everything from making dinner to playing games with the kids. When it’s time to clear the table after dinner, we just turn the radio up a bi,t and let the groove take over. Our 5 minute dance parties make clearing the table and loading the dishwasher more enjoyable, and less like work. Have you seen daughter dance? Let’s just say Elaine Benis (from Seinfeld) has nothing on my eight year old. We usually end up laughing hysterically and before you know it everything is done.
I use the same perspective with laundry time. Incorporating an aspect of play makes any chore go faster, and for us the laundry room is right off the kitchen. When laundry time arrives we just crank up the tunes, and break out the Gain Apple Mango Tango! I am not adverse to grabbing DH and gliding right into a sassy tango as he is delivering the next basket. Laugh all you want, but laundry sure is fun in our house!
Want to make laundry fun in your house too? I can help with that!
