I got Tangled last night!
I mean COMPLETELY wrapped up in the delight that is a Disney On Ice show.
Disney’s latest ice show, Dare To Dream features a storyline of three beautiful princesses – Tiana, Cinderella and Rapunzel. But that is not all you get. It is filled with popular sing along songs and movie voice tracks making you feel like you are part of a live version of each of the movies spotlighted.
Mickey and Minnie kicked off the show transporting us down to New Orleans the setting of The Princess and The Frog. We watched Tiana and Naveen’s bumpy journey to a happy ending filled with the antics of wise, Mama Odie, the spooky Shadow Man, Cajun accented firefly, Ray and even the neurotic trumpet playing alligator, Louis.
Next came the classic happily ever after story of Cinderella. Similar to the movie, talking mice and evil step sisters made for many giggles in the audience from children and parents alike. After a brief intermission, the excitement started to rise as Flynn Rider made a Mission Impossible themed theft of the lost princesses’ crown, similar to the scene in Disney’s 50th animated feature, Tangled. What followed was completely unexpected, and took my breath away.
Dramatic draping of fabric replicating Rapunzel’s flowing long locks hung from the rafters of the arena. Thinking it was for decoration only, I was flabbbergasted when a section of the fabric was lowered down and Flynn and Rapunzel wrapped the fabric with ease around their arms and were lifted high above the ice. The aerial acrobatics were absolutely magnificent, but running a close second to being my favorite, part of the show was the awesome “I Have a Dream” roughneck saloon reenactment.
There were a few times during the show my eyes welled with tears, similar to when I watch the actual movies with my kids. The skaters truly brought the characters to life and the entire show was beautifully executed. SO much in fact, that I have since purchased additional tickets to take my daughter to the show since she was unable to attend the preview with me last night.
