April 2nd is Whole Grain Sampling Day! Foodies and nutrition advocates everywhere are celebrating their love of whole grains and the important health benefits they can provide. This annual initiative was created to share all the great tasting foods that are available that include the extra bonus of featuring whole grains. I’m excited to partner with Oldways and the Whole Grains Council, as a Whole Grain Ambassador to sample some amazing whole grain products and share a fun giveaway for you too!
A few weeks ago I was sent a huge box of goodies overflowing with whole grain products to try and share with my family. If you follow me on Instagram, I am sure you have seen quite a few fun new products and smiling faces with the hashtag #SampleWholeGrains.
It’s important as a mom to introduce my children to whole grain products while they are young. Teaching them to eat a well-balanced diet now will hugely benefit them as they get older. We already eat brown rice primarily in our house, but I was happy to learn that whole grain rice can also be black, purple, red or any variety of exotic colors. Personally I need to find some purple rice. I think my kids would get a kick out of having such a fun color addition on their plates at dinnertime. Plus lunch and snack times for the kids have been filled with excitement trying out all the new smaples too. It makes me smile knowing they are enjoying something that not only tastes good, but is better for them.
Introducing three whole grain servings a day can reduce blood pressure, reduce risk of stroke by 15-20% according to a study in Scotland. And similarly eating an average of 2.5 servings of whole grain foods each day can lower the risk of cardiovascular disease by almost one quarter. Now obviously, whole grains are no replacement for specific medical care or instructions from a personal physician, but introducing more whole grains into a daily balanced diet does positively benefit the body. Now I just need to find new recipes to experience all the new grains I found through the Whole Grain Council. I love this cooking chart for whole grains they sent to me. It takes the guess work out of cooking a new grain so I can experience the taste and texture it should be when served.
Wondering what was inside kinds of goodies filled my Whole Grain Ambassador sampling box?

We like to eat whole grain breads and pastas. It’s great to have ‘comfort foods’ that aren’t all that bad for us! My hubby is in the Air Force, so it’s essential for him to eat right. This prize would be such a blessing!
