Thinking back to before I relocated to Georgia, what I knew about bugs was very limited. If the bugs were outside the house, I left them alone. If an insect happened to make its way into the the house, they were disposed of quickly. The worst I ever had to deal with was a wasp nest and then DH stepped in to take care of it. Who knew that when I moved South, the bugs would be so large they could easily wear combat boots? Obviously all the realtors were sworn to secrecy or carried a personal arsenal of Hot Shot® Insecticides.
Picture it. Sicily. No. Really it was my master bathroom, but I love a good Golden Girls reference. I was rubbing the sleep from my eyes as I headed into the bathroom to take a shower. I opened the shower stall to start the water, and there it was – a HUGE palmetto bug! I jumped back a few feet and let out a yelp. For the record, I totally prefer coffee to wake me up in the morning, not a 3 inch bug flying towards my face.
For those that aren’t familiar with the heinous palmetto bug, they are a species of roach {shudder}, but have wings and prefer damp conditions. Hence the attraction to the shower stall. That morning, I didn’t care what type of bug it was, only that it would go away asap. Using Hot Shot® Insecticides in my home, allows me to rest easy knowing bugs won’t get comfortable.
Anywhere I think palmetto bugs may show up, I pretreat with a few sprays of Hot Shot® Ant & Roach Plus Germ Killer. Well, I don’t spray personally, but I definitely oversee the job to make sure it gets done.
For me, there was no hiding in the bathroom with a huge bug, so I high tailed it out of there. I do however like to hide in my bedroom once in a while to read in peace, away from the kids.
