The South typically doesn’t get very cold, but lately we have had our share of the super cold weather brought on by the Polar Vortex.  Last January, most weekends were nice enough to head out to the park for a family picnic.  The sun was usually shining, and we could get away wearing jeans and sweatshirts.  This January…not so much!  I’ve had to get creative with indoor activities for the kids.  This past weekend while it was cold and damp outside, we stayed warm and cozy by having a FROZEN Indoor Picnic with Subway Fresh Fit for Kids Meals and some new toys from FROZEN the movie.

As record lows came rolling through the South, the kids spent hours wishing for snow that never came.  To make the most of our Saturday, I ran out to buy supplies for our indoor picnic.  I was very thankful that my local Walmart has a Subway store inside.  One stop shopping for toys and lunch, means less time in the blustery wind for mom!  Subway Fresh Fit for Kids Meals fit right in to our family’s 2014 resolution to make healthier food choices.  I am proud to say Baby piles more veggies on her sandwich than her Daddy does.

Shopping for a few FROZEN themed toys to suit both of my kids was a little rough at first.  Pickings were slim due to the popularity of the toys for the holiday.  I couldn’t find an Olaf toy, which made me a little sad.  I knew Jed would have loved it.  He’s currently a little obsessed with stuffed animals and acting out adventures with them.

I did find Kristoff and Elsa dolls, and a fabulous Elsa wig for Baby.  I knew the toys would be a great opportunity for the kids to unplug from the electronics for a while, and get back to a bit of imaginative play.  We haven’t seen FROZEN the movie yet, so I chuckled to myself as I listened to the kids create their own story lines.

The creative play was a good break for the kids.  Jed and Baby each received a 2DS for Christmas and they love them so much, that DH and I have had to set limits on their use.  So when the kids were taking a break from creating their next scene of FROZEN adventures, I presented them with the biggest score of all time!  The LAST FROZEN 3DS game that was in the store!

Let’s just say intense cheering ensued and there may have even been dancing.  We all had a fun time at our indoor picnic, so I gave in to a little electronic fun with the new DS game.  While the kids gleefully tried out their new game, I unwrapped the best find of the afternoon…a warm and fuzzy Elsa and Anna fleece blanket that was all mine.  I snuggled up on the couch next to the kids with my ipad and blanket.  I couldn’t ask for a happier place to be on a Saturday.

What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend when the weather keeps you indoors?
