Our First Girl Scout Camporee at Lake Alatoona | Mommy and Me Monday

It’s been a while, since I shared a post for Mommy and Me Monday post.  It’s been too quiet on the blog on the family side of #inthekitchen, and that needs to change.  I miss sharing our fun family adventures out and about, and hope you enjoy seeing them, as much as I like sharing them.  Last weekend Baby and I went camping with her Brownie/Daisy troop for the first time, and headed to our service unit’s annual Girl Scout Camporee.  What great fun!

We left for camp during rush hour, and proceeded to hit the usual Atlanta traffic as we headed to Camp High Harbour on Lake Alatoona.  To kill some time, and save our sanity, the other troop leader and troop mom agreed to stop for dinner, and let the traffic die down.  Once we arrived, the girls were excited to see multiple bunk bed sets in our cabin.  This mom was glad to see a cabin with air conditioning, just in case the weather stayed warm and muggy.

Air conditioned cabin, or not, this is the Summer of rain here in Atlanta this year, so it should be no shocker, that our weekend was a bit soggy.  Baby did not let that stop her from learning how to kijak, or going swimming in the lake.  It also didn’t stop me from adding a little extra sunshine thanks to my favorite photo filter app.

Girl Scout Camporee Weekend 2

Our Saturday night was overflowing with activity.  There were troop skits, and SWAPS on the porch after dinner.  We didn’t have SWAPS back when I was a Girl Scout.  SWAPS are Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere.  Each girl makes SWAPS to trade with other scouts.   It’s great way to get troops of all ages mingling.  We picked up white bucket hats for the girls to pin their their new SWAPS.

There is nothing cuter than a Brownie wearing bucket hats full of cute, colorful pins.  OK.  I’m a little biased, but c’mon…Baby looks adorable!  Of course the huge grin she is wearing over the excitement of eating a s’more could be half the reason too.  Oh, wait.  That’s why I’m smiling too!

Girl Scout Camporee Weekend 3

We had an amazing Mommy/Daughter weekend, and I hope there are many more Girl Scout adventures to come.  Have you succeeded and gotten yourself out from behind the camera lately?  If so, head on over, and link up to share your photos with Krystyn, from Really, Are You Serious?
