Lullabies For Getty

The internet is a powerful tool. On of the things I love most about it is the fact it can bring total strangers together for a cause. We all need a hand sometimes and reaching out to your online community usually gives back 200% more than you ever anticipated.

I received an email this morning from a friend reaching out.
She received an email from another friend reaching out, who received an email from a reader about a friend.

Do you see where I am going here? Someone needs help.

This particular someone is a beautiful baby girl named Getty.

Baby Getty has SMA. What is SMA you ask?

Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is an inherited disease that causes progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. Infants, like Getty, with SMA Type 1 (SMA1), the most severe type of SMA, are born with very little muscle tone and weak muscles. They develop feeding and breathing problems as the weakness gets worse over time. The weakness eventually becomes severe. There is no cure or treatment for SMA. The lifespan with SMA1 is seldom longer than 2 – 3 years.

As a mother of two children that are healthy and strong, not only does this make me feel forever blessed, but it breaks my heart at the same time.

I don’t baby Getty, nor do I know her parents, but it doesn’t matter. I know there is something I can do. I can show them support. Support that hopefully will give them a little more strength to keep fighting the battle they face every day.

A special album of lullabies was written and named for this adorable little girl by a band called the Damnwells. Proceeds from the album will go directly to the Getty Owl Foundation to help us find a cure for SMA. You can buy the album on itunes here and even sample each song before you purchase.

You can also click on the image below to go donate to the Getty Owl Foundation via PayPal to help find a cure for SMA. See more info on the foundation here.

If you find in these economic times that buying the album or donating is not within your means, that’s ok too. You can Like Lullabies For Getty on Facebook and show your support there.

I was always taught it’s the thought that counts. This time, your thoughts could mean the world to someone and let them know they are not alone.

We are all connected. Let’s prove it.
