I’ve been crazy busy lately in the office, but not specifically due to my Supply Chain duties. 🙂 I was offered a great opportunity for some specialized training on site in our building and I jumped on it.
I am very proud to announce that I am now officially certified as a Child Passenger Safety Technician!
What does that mean you ask?
It means I am now able to be a resource for other parents (and parents-to-be) on how to properly install their child’s car seat. To be perfectly clear, I will not be installing seats for parents, but rather, assisting them to make sure they understand how to properly install the seat themselves safely, every time.
For three long days I received instruction, practiced and was tested on installing car seats. Yes, car seats. And not just Graco car seats, either. All types of brands because let’s face it, parents make different choices. I want to be a resource for any parent, not just one that has the same car seat as I have in my car. What I didn’t know, was the many different types of seat belts used in cars. I even realized some things I could do better to improve safety, like securing my daughters no back booster seat with the seat belt when she was not in the car with me. This keeps the seat from becoming a projectile object in an accident, and to be completely honest, never once did I think about how that loose seat would be a risk to me when my daughter was not in the car seated in it.
I truly enjoyed the class, as you can see we had quite a fun group.

I look forward to volunteering for future community car seat checks and taking a step towards reducing possible future tragedies. Many thanks to Mike James, Child Passenger Safety Coordinator for Alabama, and his team of great trainers! It was an awesome three days and well worth the time and effort.

That’s great! It’s amazing to me how the same seat can fit so differently in various brands. I still remember the intial panic over installation with my first kiddo. We are slowly growing out of seats as the years go by, but I find that it is good to be familiar with the basics because you may carry a friend’s child at any time.
