Growing up we always had Mexican themed dinner a few times a month. My mom always prepared way too much food for a family of five, so we started inviting friends over to share the multiple entrees. Before long, our family Mexican night evolved from a sit down dinner to an all out party atmosphere. Friends and neighbors would snack, chat and mingle over dinner. Regular tacos didn’t cut it anymore. Too many people were socializing while they ate. A shard of brilliance struck and loaded nachos were born out of snacking necessity. The “Lay’s Do Us A Flavor” contest has returned and I had an epiphany. How genius is a Loaded Nacho flavored potato chip? Could it be worth 1 million dollars?
To this day I always associate Mexican food with family, love, and above all a party! I’ve continued to make loaded nachos, but now I refer to them as my Man Catching Nachos, because after a few bites my boyfriend (now husband) asked me to marry him. Well okay, not after a few bites. But I swear they were one of the reasons he never wanted to lose me. My loaded nachos dish has some pretty hearty layers, and easily doubles as a meal during any sports season.
I wish I could say I grew up in a state like Texas to match my love of Mexican food, but alas, Philadelphia is known for cheesesteaks. As delicious as cheesesteaks are, I think that potato chip flavor has sailed.
I would love to see the many flavor layers of my loaded nachos formed into a potato chip flavor. I’m already a fan of LAY’S® Cheddar & Sour Cream Flavored Potato Chips so that tackles two flavors of my new combo. Then I would add a layer of zesty tomato salsa combined with a mild taco seasoning. All four flavor layers would be a spectacular homage to my loaded nachos! One word people. YUM!
This year for added excitement the Lay’s brand is asking their fans to include the location (city/state) that inspired each potential million-dollar idea. Note to self. Figure out how to connect loaded nachos with Philadelphia.
