We’ve all been there. In a rush, in the car, and we automatically grab our phone because something urgent just popped into our over-stimulated brain. Being distracted when we are supposed to be focused on the road and driving causes accidents. It’s a fact. Too many people are multi-tasking in the car versus actually just driving. We need to change that.
Verizon has partnered with several other wireless carriers in the It Can Wait campaign, a program aimed at staying safe behind the wheel. People are urged to take a pledge and commit NOT to text and drive.
The It Can Wait campaign is another step in the right direction, after Verizon introduced The Safely Go app. The app allows users to lock their phones, and if a text comes in, the app will send an automatic text messages in return alerting others that the recipient is behind the wheel and can’t respond. The app can also route phone calls through Bluetooth or other hands-free devices. Pretty cool huh?
Now, obviously, the app’s effectiveness depends completely on driver’s usage of the app in the correct manner. The app won’t help people focus on the road, if they don’t put their phone down in the first place. We need people to take the It Can Wait pledge to increase safety on the road. We need everyone that takes the pledge to share that they are doing so, and spread the word. Our voices are powerful, and it is time we used them! Tell your family members, friends, and co-workers. The The It Can Wait campaign is too important to keep secret.
I’ve taken the It Can Wait pledge to not text and drive, and you should too. Now go take the pledge, and let me know you did. I’d love to be able to say my readers are joining this very important campaign along with me.
I am participating in the Verizon Wireless Ambassadors program.
I have been provided with a wireless device and three months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.
